Job Description:
- The Sheet Metal Technician fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal components and structural assemblies on Client Aviation aircraft, including business jets and turboprops.
- This role requires hands-on expertise working with aluminum and other aircraft metals using fabrication machinery, riveting equipment, and precision layout skills.
- Technicians perform structural repairs, modification work, and part restoration in accordance with engineering drawings, blueprints, repair manuals, and FAA standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and written or verbal instructions to determine project scope, layout, materials, and repair methods.
- Lay out and fabricate sheet metal parts including cutting, bending, forming radii, drilling, deburring, and preparing materials for assembly.
- Perform rivet and component removal and install solid rivets (rivet gun or squeeze tool), blind rivets, and various fasteners.
- Set up countersinking and dimpling operations and ensure proper fit, alignment, and structural integrity of parts.
- Shape metal using hand tools, forming equipment, anvils, blocks, and hammers; operate fabrication machinery as required.
- Conduct corrosion identification, removal, surface prep, wash etch, Alodine application, and primer application.
- Guide and instruct 1–2 junior technicians on processes and best practices.
- Perform all work in compliance with repair manuals, FAA AC 43.13-1B, and Client manufacturing/repair standards.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma, equivalent certification, or bronze-level WorkKeys.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of diversified aviation sheet metal experience—corporate/business jet or turboprop preferred.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an airport security badge.
Preferred Technical Qualifications:
- Familiarity with aircraft structural repair manuals and FAA AC 43.13-1B.
- Ability to identify corrosion types and perform corrosion removal and surface treatment.
- Ability to recognize and properly use rivets, bolts, screws, nuts, washers, and aircraft fasteners.
